Shaded Cubism with artist
Casey Temby (Age 8-12)

In this workshop Casey will teach the student the skills to create a drawing they are proud of to take home to hang on the wall, whilst having fun creating it!

Students will firstly learn to draw with their eye then use their creative brain to abstract it with techniques shown to them with an emphasis on cubist techniques.

Step 1 – Realism
Draw a simple everyday object (still life) and teach the students how to see- proportions

Step 2 – Abstraction
Abstract the drawing through the use of simple contour lines. Using cubist theory of making them think about the object in different ways, rejecting the traditional technique of perspective, flattening an image to create a two dimensional surface, in opposition to Step 1.

Step 3 – Geometric forms
Creating geometric forms by breaking things down and fracturing the objects using connecting lines and creating overlapping shapes.

Step 4 – Shading
Teaching shading techniques to create shadows, tone, texture, definition.

All materials supplied, please bring water bottle and a nut-free lunch for the break.
