“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure”.
A group of diverse and talented artists have collaborated with the team at the Art Space Collective to bring together an incredible exhibition of artwork in response to these words by Stephen King in The Shawshank Redemption.
Oil paintings, giclee prints, etchings, drawings and photographs unite to evoke distinctive meanings from these poignant words.
We feel privileged to include, amongst others, prominent Western Australian artists Shaun Tan, Lori Pensini, Shana James and Roslyn Nolen – each coming together to display their talents in various mediums, alongside each other on our Scarborough walls.
