LAND, PLACE AND RESIDUE
The Art Space Collective’s current exhibition evokes not only the colours and textures of the wheatbelt, but also an essence of the earth itself, as well as our place in it.
Matthew McAlpine’s solo show, Land, Place and Residue explores the complexities of place and landscape within Australia. Drawing on ideas of intrusion and the altering of land, the works aim to critique the colonial dominance that is still present in contemporary Australia. McAlpine’s works succeed in engaging the eye, as well as drawing the viewer to listen to the quiet voices present in our landscape and history.
This exhibition is certain to encourage dialogue from a fresh perspective.
